General public

Acting as an agricultural sentinel (only offered in french)

To develop the specific skills required to recognize warning signs of suicidal behaviour within one's environment and appropriately refer individuals to available support resources.

Specific objectives
  • Identify individuals who may be vulnerable to suicide.
  • Assess the presence of suicidal thoughts.
  • Gather information regarding suicide planning.
  • Ensure the person's immediate safety when necessary.
  • Communicate relevant information to the designated intervention professional.
Target clientele

This training is intended for adults who, through their work, volunteer activities, role within their environment or community, or their listening skills, may come into contact with agricultural producers experiencing suicidal thoughts. Participants voluntarily commit to acting as a bridge between the suicidal individual and available support resources and are not responsible for providing direct intervention.

Scouts (only offered in french)

"Scouts" are individuals recognized within their community who are already active in various settings through their work, volunteer activities, or other engagements (e.g., school staff, local business owners, club members, activity leaders, etc.). In their day-to-day lives, scouts are likely to come into contact with people experiencing psychosocial needs or psychological distress.

Specific objectives
  • Recognize individuals showing signs of psychological distress.
  • Establish contact with these individuals.
  • Refer and guide them to support resources.
  • Promote self-care practices.
Target clientele

Individuals aged 18 and older who are not emotionally involved with a loved one.

Professionals

Identifying individuals at risk of suicide and applying appropriate protective measures (only offered in french)

To develop the specific skills required to identify individuals vulnerable to suicide and implement appropriate protective measures for individuals at risk.

Objectifs spécifiques
  • Identify individuals who may be vulnerable to suicide.
  • Assess the presence of suicidal thoughts.
  • Gather information required to determine the level of protection needed while awaiting a comprehensive intervention.
  • Identify the appropriate protective measures.
  • Implement protective measures until a comprehensive intervention can be provided.
  • Ensure the person's safety when necessary.
  • Facilitate the transfer of care to a trained intervention professional.
Target clientele

This training is intended for professionals who may come into contact with individuals vulnerable to suicide and who, within the scope of their role, are not responsible for providing a comprehensive suicide intervention.

Postvention measures following a suicide (only offered in french)

To identify the appropriate intervention process and sequence of actions following a suicide in order to minimize its impact within the affected environment. Participants will also learn to recognize reactions associated with stress, crisis, and grief.

Objectifs spécifiques

Enable participants to:

  • Assess the impact of a suicide within a community, organization, or workplace.
  • Select appropriate interventions based on the type of reaction observed.
  • Ensure the implementation of appropriate interventions, including determining who should provide them and how they should be delivered.


Target clientele

This training is intended for organizations and settings that are in the process of developing or updating a postvention protocol. This process involves creating or revising a postvention protocol, establishing a postvention committee, and ensuring the participation of professionals who have already received basic suicide prevention training.

Introductory workshop for young people aged 13 and under who are vulnerable to suicide. (only offered in french)

To raise awareness among participants about emotional distress and suicide prevention in children aged 13 and under.

  • Assess suicidal intent and promote the child's safety.
  • Implement appropriate intervention strategies.

This training workshop is intended for professionals and practitioners who work directly with children aged 13 and under.

Provincial crisis intervention training for 24/7 service environments (only offered in french)

To conduct crisis interventions using recognized evidence-based clinical approaches and clinical tools adapted to the intervention context.

Objectifs spécifiques
  • Equip professionals with the tools to intervene with individuals experiencing a crisis;
  • Promote a consistent conceptual framework and establish a common language for crisis intervention;
  • Develop expertise in crisis intervention;
  • Define key crisis concepts;
  • Understand the development of a crisis while recognizing and identifying the various phases associated with the process;
  • Identify the essential elements of a clinical assessment of a crisis
Target clientele

This training is intended for professionals and practitioners involved in crisis intervention. It is offered in the form of clinical activities and role-playing exercises.

Preventing suicide in individuals aged 14 and over - Fostering hope and assessing danger (only offered in french)

À la fin de la formation, les participants sont en mesure : d'estimer la dangerosité d'un passage à l'acte suicidaire ; de susciter l'espoir chez la personne en détresse ; d'appliquer les mesures de sécurité appropriées.By the end of this training, participants will be able to: assess the risk of a suicidal act; foster hope in a person in distress; and apply appropriate safety measures.

Objectifs spécifiques
  • Understand the different types of crisis.
  • Recognize warning signs.
  • Integrate the steps of crisis intervention.
  • Develop skills to de-escalate a crisis.
  • Assess risk and danger.
  • Adapt interventions to the specific needs of individuals with mental health conditions.
  • Refer individuals safely.
Target clientele

This training is intended for professionals and practitioners who work with individuals aged 14 and over and who have the clinical responsibility of assessing suicide risk, regardless of their practice setting.

Duration

10 hours of online self-study; 7 hours of group training with an accredited instructor; 3.5 hours of post-training follow-up. Total duration approximately 20.5 hours.
